Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a level 1-2 and level 2-3 class with Karin. And I also got to meet with her privately. At our private meeting I was feeling a lot of discomfort throughout my body – achy, tired, and sore. We decided to use our time together for “mental yoga” or mentorship. I was able to share the struggles I have as a studio owner and get some tangible advice from someone who has been doing it for over 30 years (I am trying not to reveal Karin’s age here without her permission). The advice Karin gave me resonated with thoughts that were already growing in my mind. She was also very encouraging about my practice and my body telling me that my physical practice looked strong. She commented that I am like an Amazon woman with amazing strength in my body. This made me chuckle and blush uncomfortably to tell you the truth but I also loved it. We also talked about food. Over the last year and a half or so I have developed some food allergies that make me almost always have an itchy head and hives on my chest. That along with a couple of other factors have shifted my mind toward a more vegetarian diet. One of these factors is hearing lectures and reading articles that tangibly explain how the nutrients in fruits and vegetables actually block the affects of environmental toxins on the body. Another is meeting someone who raised my consciousness about modern animal farming and how inhumane it is.
I explained to Karin that whatever changes I made to my diet would need to be simple simple simple. She supported my plan to eat at least 8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day without worrying about any other factor.
In addition, I got to talk with Karin about how the economy has effected my business and how I have engaged in a lot of extra administrative work and marketing because of it. What she said next was music to my ears … she told me to do less marketing and do more yoga. She explained this has been the key to her success and that she was confident it would work for me as well. Ahhhhhh.
We did no physical yoga during our time together but my body felt completely better. Sometimes we just need mental yoga.
